Konnor Griffin Call Up Shifts National League Rookie of the Year Odds

Konnor Griffin, the No. 1-ranked prospect in Major League Baseball according to MLB.com, has been called up by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is set to make his MLB debut in the Pirates' home-opener on Friday afternoon against the Baltimore Orioles.

Griffin was reassigned to Minor League camp on March 21, but that didn't last long. Griffin went 7-of-16 with three steals and five walks, and only four strikeouts in his five Triple-A games. That was enough to convince Pirates' management to bring him up to help boost Pittsburgh's lackluster offense.

As a result, Griffin is back to being the betting favorite to be named National League Rookie of the Year. Let's take a look at the latest odds.

Griffin and Sal Stewart from the Reds are co-favorites at 22.22%. Stewart is batting .474 with two home runs through the Reds' first six games this season. His odds have seen a bigger jump than Griffin's, moving from +950 to +350 since Opening Day.

Owen Cassie has also seen a big jump since before the season began. Cassie had a coming-out party during the World Baseball Classic, being one of Canada's best players in an impressive run. He carried that momentum into the MLB regular season with the Marlins, batting .350 with an OPS of .991 through their first six games.
