SF Giants prospects: Infielder wins Player of the Week Award at Double-A

After a scorching hot week for the Richmond Flying Squirrels, SF Giants prospect Jimmy Glowenke won the Eastern League Player of the Week Award.

Richmond Flying Squirrels infielder Jimmy Glowenke was named the Eastern League Player of the Week for August 28-September 3rd by Minor League Baseball. Glowenke, an SF Giants prospect, has spent the majority of the season at Double-A as Richmond's primary second baseman. The Giants drafted Glowenke with a compensatory round B pick out of Dallas Baptist University in the 2020 MLB Draft.

In the last week, Glowenke hit .536 with a home run, double, five walks, and three RBIs across the Flying Squirrels six games. He finished the week with a 1.509 OPS. His batting average, OPS, and on-base percentage (.696) all led the Eastern League for the week.

The 24-year-old spent 2021 with the San Jose Giants in Single-A, batting .256/.367/.444 with 13 home runs and 51 runs batted in. In 2022, he continued his production playing for the High-A Eugene Emeralds, slashing .212/.301/.412 with 12 homers and 44 RBIs. This season, he began the season back with the Emeralds and posted a .956 OPS in 26 games before he was promoted to Richmond at the end of May.

In his first month at Double-A, Glowenke struggled mightily. However, he began to turn things around in July and has batted .336 in his last 43 games, with seven homers and 28 RBIs. His last stretch has been, by far, his most successful. The Flying Squirrels will finish out their season with a home series against the Cleveland Guardians' affiliate Akron RubberDucks and away at the Detroit Tigers' affiliate Erie SeaWolves.

Three other members of the SF Giants 2020 MLB Draft class have already reached the major leagues. If he keeps hitting the way he has recently, infielder Jimmy Glowenke could join Patrick Bailey (Giants Top 2 Prospect), Kyle Harrison (Giants Top 4 Prospect), and Casey Schmitt at Oracle Park some point next season.
