Indians Win Ninth Straight Game With 5-4 Victory Over White Sox; Three Takeaways

Weird game!

The Indians got a victory against the Chicago White Sox, 5-4, in their second game of the three game weekend series thanks to a go-ahead hit by pitch to Brandon Guyer.

In picking up the win, Cleveland got a decent otting from Cory Kluber, who struck out 12 batters. He gets a no-decision.

However, it wasn't the best day for the offense. Yes, they scored five runs, but after the third inning the Indians had plenty of chances to knock the game wide open. They left 14 men on base and went 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position.

Before they go for their tenth straight win tomorrow, here are our three takeaways from Saturday's game.

3. Corey Kluber's Performance

Cleveland Indians ace Corey Kluber pitched 6.1 innings, giving up nine hits on four runs and striking out 12.

The White Sox did give Kluber some problems in the third inning, as Jose Abreu hit a three-run home run to cut the deficit to 4-3. Chicago was able to tie the game up at four off of Tim Anderson's double in the sixth inning to right field that Austin Jackson narrowly missed.

One of the brighter spots tonight? With his 12 Ks, Kluber becomes the first pitcher in franchise history to strikeout at least 12 hitters three straight games.

2. Andrew Miller catches a break

Reliever Andrew Miller came in to pitch in the seven and the eighth innings, and it wasn't easy.

The first batter he faced was Yoan Moncada, but a pitch hit him in the leg to load the bases with just one out.

We all thought Chicago would be able to open the game up when Matt Davidson also got hit by a pitch, but the umpire ultimately ruled it as a swing. Miller got out of the inning by striking out the next two batters with his fastball.

In the eighth inning, he was able to get out of the jam again despite giving up a walk, a hit and the defense committing an error. Thankfully the game stayed tied then.

1. Keep winning

The Indians have won nine in a row thanks to good pitching and some clutch hits in later innings. Team is averaging 7.3 runs per game, and is hitting .325 during this win streak. The starting pitchers also currently hold a 3.18 ERA.

This is the time that team team needs to get hot, especially with two and a half more months of baseball to go.

Tomorrow the Indians will go for the sweep and their tenth straight win before heading to Boston for another three-game series.
