CLEVELAND-- Indians pitcher Danny Salazar took to Twitter on Tuesday to thank fans for their support following his shoulder surgery.

"This has been one of the hardest moments of my career just battling the last 6 months trying to get healthy to do what I love the most," Salazar wrote on social media. "Sadly went to surgery yesterday and can't play this season, but I'm writing this just to say thank you for all your support."

Salazar underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery on Monday. He won't be able to throw for 12 to 16 weeks. Dr. Keith Meister, the Texas Rangers team physician, performed an arthroscopic debridement and bursectomy on his right shoulder.

The starter came to spring training with a sore shoulder, and has not thrown in a game at any level this season. He has dealt with arm issues since 2016, when he was an All-Star.
