2024 Guardians Spring Training Players Of The Game: Game 15

Cleveland's Kyle Manzardo, Alexfri Planez, Cade Smith, and Nic Enright each had a solid game in the team's 5-4 loss to the Los Angeles Angels.

The Cleveland Guardians suffered their ninth 2024 Cactus League loss with a 5-4 defeat to the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday afternoon.

With 90 players representing the Guardians during spring training (40-man roster, 22 non-roster invitees, and 28 depth camp players), each game’s roster will vary.

Based on Cleveland’s roster for Saturday’s game and their performances in the contest, here are four Players of the Game.

Kyle Manzardo, 1B

Cleveland’s second-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline contributed to the team’s four-run bottom of the eighth inning in his only plate appearance of the day.

His RBI double in the half-inning trimmed the Guardians’ deficit to 5-2. This hit gave Manzardo his second double and RBI of the spring.

Alexfri Planez, RF

The 22-year-old outfield prospect also recorded an RBI in his sole plate appearance of the afternoon.

With one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, his third double of the spring allowed Manzardo to score, which reduced Cleveland’s deficit to 5-4. This was Planez’s fourth RBI of the spring.

Cade Smith, RHP

The 24-year-old recorded his fourth consecutive scoreless relief appearance for the Guardians.

He faced four batters in the top of the seventh inning, allowing one hit and throwing a pair of strikeouts.

In five relief appearances so far this spring, Smith has allowed one earned run and no walks, while throwing six strikeouts.

Nic Enright, RHP

The 27-year-old non-roster invitee pitched an efficient top of the eighth inning in relief.

After surrendering a leadoff double, Enright retired the final three hitters he faced, striking out two of them.

Up next, Cleveland will face the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. EST.
