Marlins Farm System Has A Clear Hole

The Miami Marlins have a clear problem with their farm system.

The Miami Marlins have been off to a well-documented poor start. The current state of the roster isn't great, but what does the future of the team look like?

It might not be much better, as Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter ranked their farm system as the second-worst in the league.

While evaluating the prospects across the league, Reuter also split them into three different tiers. Tier 1 prospects are considered Top 100, Tier 2 are players that could end up as a Top 100 prospect and Tier 3 players are expected to be borderline roster guys at best.

The Marlins were given one Tier 1 prospect in Noble Meyer.

Meyer was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2023 Major League Baseball draft. He is the No. 52 overall prospect on MLB.com. He isn't expected to be in the majors until at least 2026, currently at 19 years old. He is known for his fastball-slider combo.

The Marlins were credited with two Tier 2 prospects in Thomas White and Max Meyer, meaning their top three prospects as of now are all pitchers.

White, the top lefty in the system, was the No. 35 overall selection of the 2023 draft.

Neither pitcher has been off to a wonderful start to their minor league careers, but they're each only a few games in.

Max Meyer is the highest prospect on the list with major league experience. The 25-year-old was a 34th round selection of the Minnesota Twins in 2017.

In two games this season, he had a 2.12 earned run average. Despite his strong start, the team still doesn't feel too safe with where he's at right now as they sent him back down to the minor leagues.

The rest of the top ten prospects on the Marlins list were all Tier 3, meaning that they don't have a single positional player prospect that is expected to have a huge impact.

When trade talks start with their current roster, their biggest need is clear.
