The Top Five Miami Marlins on MLB The Show 24 Has One Glaring Omission

The ratings for MLB The Show 24 and one player's rating could leave Miami Marlins fans confused.

The Miami Marlins are right to have beef with Sony.

The next iteration of the yearly baseball video game, MLB the Show 24, is set to come out next week. To drum up some excitement for the game, they have already announced the overall ratings for players as they look to start the season.

The top five Marlins players to start the season make some sense but has one player left out that is causing some confusion.

Here are the top five-rated Marlins as of now.

LHP Tanner Scott - 91 Overall

The highest-rated Marlin is closing pitcher Tanner Scott. This one makes sense after his breakout 2023 campaign that saw his ERA plummet to 2.31 and his WHIP dip below 1.00. He's one of the more intriguing relief pitchers in the league right now, so it's not surprising to see him get some respect.

RHP Eury Pérez - 89 Overall

The exciting young player is already about to crack 90 overall as he gets ready for his second season in the league. He has shown clear ace potential before turning 21. He's going to be fun to build around in the video, just as the Marlins plan to do in real life. If he can continue to develop his offspeed pitches, good things will come.

OF Jazz Chisholm Jr. - 83 Overall

There's a big drop off from second place to the rest of the list being a tie at 83. Last year's cover athlete is an 83 overall to start the year. His speed and fielding should be around the same but his batting has been inconsistent, taking a step back in 2023. The Marlins need him to have a bounce back campaign in 2024.

RHP Sandy Alcántara - 83 Overall

The 2022 NL Cy Young Award winner is another player who had a step back season in 2023, despite the team making the wild card for the first time since 2020. The Marlins have an exciting staff and don't need him to be a Cy Young level pitcher (thought it would be nice) but they do need him to have more success in 2024 than 2023.

3B Jake Burger - 83 Overall

Rounding out the top five is Burger, who saw a spike in his power last season. His batting average has been pretty consistent throughout the start of his career, but he had a career-high OPS in 2023.

Who's missing?

It is shocking to not see Luis Arráez included in this list. The two-time All-Star, batting champion, and Silver Slugger winner is not among the five highest-rated players on the roster. In fact, he is all the way down at a 73 overall rating. He has 99 contact against right-handed pitchers but that's about all that the MLB the Show staff has given him credit for.
