New York Mets Set Rookies For Pitching Rotation vs. Marlins

The New York Mets have set their pitching probables for their three-game series with the Miami Marlins, which starts on Tuesday at Citi Field in New York.

All three games will start at 7:10 p.m. central.

The Mets are set to send rookie left-hander Joey Lucchesi (3-0, 2.88) to face Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (9-6, 3.53).

Lucchesi took a no-decision in his last start against Miami a week ago, where he gave up six hits and two earned runs in 5.2 innings. He struck out five and walked two. He is now 2-0 with a 3.48 ERA in his last seven starts, with 20 strikeouts and 13 walks in 33.2 innings.

Garrett also took a no-decision in his last start against the Mets a week ago, as he went six innings and gave up no earned runs. He allowed five hits and struck out seven. He's been one of the Marlins’ best pitchers the past seven games, with a 3-3 record and a 1.86 ERA, with 29 strikeouts and eight walks in his last 38.2 innings.

While the Marlins have not set their probable, the Mets will send rookie right-hander Kodai Senga (12-7, 2.96) on Wednesday for his final start of 2023.

Senga has won his last two starts. Against Miami last Wednesday he pitched six innings, giving up seven hits, two earned runs and two walks. He also had three strikeouts. He has been sharp in his last seven starts, with a 4-1 record and a 2.22 ERA. In his last 44.2 innings he has struck out 52 and walked 17.

Thursday’s finale will feature Mets left-hander David Peterson (3-8, 5.37) against Marlins left-hander Jesús Luzardo (10-9, 3.73).

Peterson took a no-decision in his last outing against Philadelphia on Tuesday, giving up five hits and four earned runs in four innings. He struck out seven and walked two. In his last seven starts, he is 0-1 with a 4.89 ERA, with 46 strikeouts and 16 walks in his last 35 innings.

Luzardo took a no-decision in his last start against Milwaukee on Saturday, where he gave up three hits and three earned runs in five innings. He also struck out four and walked three. He is 2-2 with a 3.82 ERA in his last seven starts, with 41 strikeouts and 16 walks in his last 37.2 innings pitched.

After the Mets wrap up their series with the Marlins they remain home for their final series of the season, which starts on Friday against Philadelphia.
