New York Mets' Rookie Hitters Make Major Statement

In this story:
All things considered for the New York Mets, this season has been frustrating and disappointing. There were major expectations that they would not only make the playoffs, but contend for their first World Series championship since 1986.
Ultimately, that did not come to fruition and the front office waived the white flag at the trade deadline, bringing in prospects as they looked to the future.
On Tuesday, Mets fans were able to get a little glimpse at what the future could look like.
Four of their promising young players were all in the lineup together against the Washington Nationals. Mark Vientos, Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio were the five through eight hitters respectively.
They delivered, finishing the game going 5-for-13 with a home run, triple, double and four RBI during New York's 11-5 victory on Tuesday.
Alvarez told MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, "It’s incredible that we’re all in the lineup together. It makes me feel like whenever we’re all in the lineup, there’s something we can do. There’s something each and every one of them are going to do, because I have that confidence in them that they can go out there and produce."
It's even more remarkable considering that none of the four rookies are older than 23.
Vientos, Alvarez and Baty have all spent extended time with the Mets throughout this season, while Mauricio made his MLB debut Sept. 1. The quartet came up through the minor league pipeline together, spending time at various affiliates during their journey to the majors.
Manager Buck Showalter was asked his thoughts about the rookies' future, saying, "We feel good about it. It’s always important for them to take advantage of an opportunity because of the memories you leave, and the evaluations."
They'll have be ability to showcase what they can do in September and veteran outfielder Brandon Nimmo has taken notice.
"They bring a lot of energy. They bring a lot of grit. They’re trying to make a statement, and that’s huge. Especially in September, I think it brings a lot of energy to the rest of us. We’re eager to play with them and see what we’re capable of," he said.
While the season overall has been disappointing, if the rookies continue to flash during the last month of the regular season, there could be some hope injected back into the organization knowing their young players can play.
