Blake Snell Rumors: Padres NL West Rival Might Be Out of Free Agent Sweepstakes

Could Snell return to the Padres after all?

Reigning Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell remains unsigned as we head into the start of March. With Spring Training games already started, Snell may be forced to take a deal less than he would like.

The former San Diego Padres ace has reportedly been looking for a deal well over $200 million, but so far, there have been no takers. Teams are hesitant to hand out large free-agent deals to pitchers in their 30s like Snell, and we are seeing the repercussions of that.

One team that has gained a lot of connection with Snell this offseason has been the San Francisco Giants. They have been looking to add more power to their rotation, and Snell could certainly do the trick.

San Diego is hoping that Snell doesn't land in the division, and it looks like they may get their wish. Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi may have just shut down any rumors linked San Francisco with the Cy Young Award winner.

"We have talked all offseason and been very consistent that our plan was to continue to graduate some of our young players. The off-season is really over as far as I'm concerned.''

Snell was electric for the Padres last season, posting an ERA of 2.25 throughout the year. He was a big reason why San Diego stayed alive in the postseason race for as long as they did, so it's a little strange that he remains without a team.

The Padres would be very happy if he doesn't end up with the Giants, and goes elsewhere. They don't want to have to face him multiple times over the next few years.

The Los Angeles Angels have also been linked with Snell, so the hope is that he lands with them. Either way, the free agency saga of Snell continues on, and it's been one of the more interesting in recent memory.
