Padres News: Bob Melvin Takes Inexplicable Stance on Friars' Current State

In this story:
Your San Diego Padres didn't have the ideal weekend they thought they would. They kicked things off with a bang against the lonely Washington Nationals on Friday night with a huge 13-3 win and inched closer to .500, only two games behind.
That all changed the next two days, as the Friars dropped the next two and were only able to take one of three games. The Nationals are among the bottom three teams in the National League, and to lose the series in the fashion they did is inexcusable.
The Padres realize that, especially their skipper Bob Melvin, who said they are who their record says they are.
“We never expected to be where we were record-wise at this point,” said manager Bob Melvin. “But it is what it is, and it basically tells you who you are.”

After scoring 13 runs on Friday night, the Padres were only able to muster three runs in the next two games, including a shutout on Saturday. This team is so odd and bizarre.
With the types of pieces they have, they shouldn't be able to struggle as much as they are with the All-Stars they have on their roster. It's very frustrating to watch, and now is the time to wonder if they could ever turn it around.
Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts knows the clock is ticking, and they must turn it around fast.
“But we have to start. We
have
to. There’s not a lot of tomorrows left. The season is coming to an end -- not soon, but it is. If we keep tacking on losses, it’s going to come by quick.”

Melvin sees it as a glass half empty at the moment, and you can't really blame him.
“It doesn’t look great,” Melvin said. “There are a lot of teams ahead of us, as far as playoff teams, at this point. But there is a run that could get us right back into it quickly. We just haven’t done it.”

The million-dollar question: When will the Padres turn it around? The Friars are still searching for that answer.
