In this story:

The San Diego Padres beat the Minnesota Twins, 6-2, on Friday night and improved to 69-60 on the year.

Randy Vásquez allowed just two hits across seven innings of work and struck out three in the process. Bradgley Rodriguez needed just six pitches (four strikes and two ground balls) to finish off the eighth inning as Mason Miller struck out the side on 17 pitches to close out the contest.

Offensively, Fernando Tatis Jr. enjoyed a three-hit night with a pair of RBIs and Ty France had himself a three-RBI night that was started by a two-run home run in the first. Luis Rengifo and Manny Machado each had two hits, an RBI and scored a run on the road to victory.

In other news, the Padres are predicted to promote top prospect Ethan Salas by a trio of MLB insiders as the young catcher continues to dominate at the Triple-A level. After he earned a promotion with a .286 batting average across 72 Double-A games this season, Salas is currently slashing .359/.427/.625 with an OPS of 1.052 through his first 17 games at the highest minor league classification.

Additionally, Padres insider Kevin Acee of the San Diego Tribune reported that there are a pair of Friars at risk of losing their spots on the roster due to their low production at the plate, plus a few key bats aiming for a return to the lineup.

Samad Taylor recently began a rehab assignment after suffering an oblique strain towards the beginning of July, and according to Acee, Miguel Andujar is back to once again swinging a bat after a wrist fracture that has kept him on the shelf for the last month.

Finally, three MLB.com insiders ranked San Diego's farm system as the worst in baseball, partly as a result of an eventful trade deadline. Though president of baseball operations AJ Preller made very necessary roster moves to gear up for what hopes to be a deep October run, a few of the deadline deals were at the expense of an already dwindling farm system.
