Former Philadelphia Phillies Shortstop Signed By Mariners

Former Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius has found a new home.
The 33-year-old infielder signed a minor league deal. The announcement came from Algodoneros de Unión Laguna, the Mexican League club he had been playing for.
Gregorius struggled his past two Major League seasons and was released by the Phillies in August of 2022 and remained a free agent until May 2023.
He headed to the Mexican League and joined his current team. Gregorius has been on an absolute hot streak since signing. He's slashing .359/.431/.777 through 26 games this year.
The shortstop played for New York Yankees from 2015 to 2019. He was once an effective big-league shortstop, slashing .269/.313/.446.
In free agency, he signed with Philadelphia. He was good enough in 2020 to earn a two-year contract. However, his performance slumped. point. Gregorius slashed just .210/.267/.345 from 2021 to 2022.
Seattle needs him to produce. The club has had a few of their regulars struggle on offense this year. Second baseman Kolten Wong has an awful .153/.246/.178 line so far this year in 130 plate appearances.
The Mariners have options in how they want to decide to deploy him. He’ll give the club a bit of extra non-roster depth. But it'll be up to him to earn his way back to the majors.
