Philadelphia Phillies Acquire Promising Prospect in Trade With Royals
The Philadelphia Phillies have completed another trade in what has been a busy past seven days on the transaction front. They kickstarted Monday, their day off, with a trade with the Kansas City Royals.
The Phillies sent right-handed pitcher James McArthur, who was designated for assignment on May 4, to the Royals. In exchange, Philadelphia received outfielder Junior Marin and cash considerations.
Marin is a 19-year-old prospect who has played at the rookie ball level but has never reached a full season affiliate has some promising tools. In 2022, Marin slashed .315/.379/.413 at the rookie level.
This wasn't some throwaway trade, Marin is a real prospect, but is seen as more of a lottery card. It's a solid return for McArthur who was likely on his way out the organization anyways.
The Phillies have Monday off before hosting the Toronto Blue Jays for a quick two-game series that starts on Tuesday.
