Phillies Formally Report Extensions For Legendary Announcers

Tom McCarthy and Scott Franzke have both signed multi-year contract extensions with the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Philadelphia Phillies formally announced multi-year contract extensions for television announcer Tom McCarthy and radio play-by-play announcer Scott Franzke.

McCarthy has been with the Phillies for 21 years in two separate stints and has served as the television play-by-play announcer since 2009.

Franzke made his Phillies radio debut in 2006 and has been the team’s main play-by-play announcer for radio broadcasts since ‘07.

“With Tom and Scott, it’s the familiarity of their voices, their extensive knowledge of the Phillies and their passion for the game that made these extensions an easy decision,” Phillies Executive Vice President David Buck said in a statement. “We look forward to each of them bringing our fans along for this exciting journey through the 2023 season and beyond.”

McCarthy and Franzke are highly popular in the Delaware Valley and throughout Major League Baseball.

“I am thrilled to be back for the foreseeable future and get this season started during one of the most anticipated years we’ve had in a long time,” McCarthy said. “The connection we make with our players and fans through our broadcast coverage is what makes this job so rewarding.”

“My family and I are very excited to be a continuing part of this organization and the Philadelphia community,” Franzke added. “The team on the field is obviously on the rise and the team in our broadcast booth is second to none.”

In addition to the contract extensions for McCarthy and Franzke, the Phillies have signed Kevin Stocker to a multi-year contract. Stocker will serve as the club’s radio color analyst for road games and select home games not called by Larry Andersen. Andersen, the club’s longtime color analyst, will continue to call most home games for the ‘23 season.

A member of the 1993 NL championship team, Stocker began his Phillies radio broadcast career calling six games over the ‘16 and ‘17 seasons, before working select road games in ‘18 and ‘22.

“I’m very grateful to the Philadelphia Phillies for my expanded role in the broadcast booth and the opportunity to work alongside a group of broadcasters who are the best in the business,” Stocker said. “They love to bring Phillies baseball to the fans, and I am truly honored to be a part of it.”

Gregg Murphy will host pregame and postgame radio shows both at Citizens Bank Park and for road games. Murphy joined the Phillies broadcast team in ‘12 as a field reporter.
