Philadelphia Phillies Make Surprising Roster Moves Ahead of Yankees Game Tuesday
The Philadelphia Phillies have made a few roster moves ahead of their Tuesday night matchup with the New York Yankees. After an 0-4 start to the season and some lackluster performances from their pitching staff, change was inevitable.
Right-hander Yunior Marte, who holds a 54.00 ERA in 1.0 innings pitched this season (two appearances) was optioned. Marte gave up earned runs in Monday night's loss to the Yankees.
Marte probably won't, nor should he see any time with the Big League club for a while. He clearly wasn't ready and the moment was too big. While he wasn't the lone culprit for the team's performance, far from it, he just could not be trusted in any type of situation.
In a corresponding move, McKinley Moore had his contract selected and will join the bullpen on Tuesday in New York according to the team.
Jhailyn Ortiz was also DFA'd to make room for McKinley who was not on the 40-man roster.
