Philadelphia Phillies Place Alvarado on Injured List Ahead of Blue Jays Matchup Wednesday

The Philadelphia Phillies have placed left-hander José Alvarado on the 15-day injured list ahead of their Wednesday matchup with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Philadelphia Phillies announced on Wednesday that left-hander José Alvarado has been placed on the 15-day injured list.

Alvarado has been experiencing left elbow inflammation and his injured list date has been retro dated to May 8.

In a corresponding move, the Phillies activated right-handed pitcher Andrew Bellatti from his rehab assignment at Single-A Clearwater. Bellatti has been working his way back from right triceps tendinitis.

In 14.1 innings pitched this season Alvarado has amassed a 1.88 ERA coupled with a miniscule 0.698 WHIP. He has also converted five of his seven save opportunities.

The news comes ahead of Philadelphia's Wednesday matchup with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Phillies took Tuesday's game in 8-4 fashion after a strong outing from Aaron Nola.

Wednesday's game starts at 4:05 p.m. ET and Zack Wheeler (3-2, 4.26) will take the mound for Philadelphia. He will face Kevin Gausman (2-3, 3.86) of the Blue Jays.
