After another tough ending to a season, the Philadelphia Phillies have to figure out what missing pieces will put them in the best position to win an elusive World Series title.

With their ace Aaron Nola hitting free agency, that puts a ton on the plate of the front office.

Dave Dombrowski has made it clear that re-signing their star right hander is the organization's top priority.

But, he also made it known he's not sure if they will be able to get him back, based on the interest that other teams have in him.

This would force the Phillies into scramble mode to replace Nola's production.

One player they could target this offseason is Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes.

The 2021 NL Cy Young winner is entering the last year of his contract in 2024 and has proven to be a high-end starting pitcher the last three seasons.

He's been an All-Star selection three years in a row and is an innings eater just like Nola.

That's one of the most important things that Philadelphia would look for in a replacement if their ace does leave.

Burnes provides that and also gives them another Cy Young caliber arm next to Zack Wheeler at the top of their rotation.

The 29-year-old would also present the Phillies longevity on the backend of his career if they want to offer him a contract extension.

Burnes has thrown half the innings that Nola has at the Major League level, only moving into a starting role during the COVID shortened 2020 season.

Losing Nola would certainly be a blow to Philadelphia if they aren't able to find a suitable replacement.

Adding the former Cy Young winner would be a huge addition to this rotation entering 2024.
