Philadelphia Phillies' Newly Signed Prospect Has Superstar Potential

While much of the focus during the offseason is centered around Major League deals, teams also attempt to fortify their farm systems as well.

That's what the Philadelphia Phillies did.

According to baseball reporter Francys Romero, the Phillies officially signed 17-year-old Cuban shortstop prospect Denilson Aguila.

The talented youngster is a switch hitter and showed some interesting tools during his two games with the Boca Raton Blazers of the South Florida Collegiate League.

Aguila was walked three times during his four at-bats and struck out the other time. He also showed some defensive prowess that projects well with his physical traits.

He also has a very smooth swing that could be built upon quickly.

Of course, placing massive expectations on a 17-year-old is difficult when they haven't played major high school or collegiate baseball in the United States.

It's the scouts' job to find these types of players out there that other teams might have missed and project what type of professional they might be.

Aguila could become that player.

Now that he's signed with Philadelphia, he'll have every resource available to try and boost him into a Major Leaguer. They've done a good job of that recently as Bryson Stott, Alec Bohm, Johan Rojas, Ranger Suarez and Orion Kerkering have all come up through their minor league system.

The Phillies are looking for more talent in their pipeline as MLB.com has them ranked No. 23. Getting a switch hitting infield prospect with the potential of Aguila certainly helps with their reloading process.

As far as timeline is concerned for when Philadelphia might see the talented Cuban, that's too early to tell.
