Aaron Judge Injury Update Before Texas Rangers, Yankees Third Game

The New York Yankees provided a new update on the condition of slugger Aaron Judge going into Saturday's game.

ARLINGTON, Texas – Aaron Judge is out of the lineup again Saturday night for the New York Yankees against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field.

Unlike Friday, however, there is a diagnosis for what has sidelined Judge. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said before Saturday's game that Judge was suffering from a mild hip sprain.

It's not clear if Judge is destined for the injured list. A decision is expected by Monday.

"We're going to wait and see, today and tomorrow, and see how he feels," Boone said.

Judge underwent tests before Friday's game but the Yankees didn't have an update during the pregame media session.

The reigning American League MVP left Thursday’s series opener in the fourth inning with right hip discomfort. The team captain was replaced in right field by Oswaldo Cabrera.

The Yankees won 4-2.

Without Judge on Saturday, the Yankees will go with an outfield of Cabrera in right, former Rangers infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa in center and Jake Bauers in left. The Yankees called up Bauers from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

It now looks unlikely that Judge will return during the Rangers series, which goes through Sunday. He is hitting .261 with six home runs and 14 RBI through 26 games.

Judge normally likes hitting at Globe Life Field – his AL single-season record 62nd home run was hit here last season – but he went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts Thursday against Andrew Heaney before leaving the game.

Texas (15-11) looks to take a 2-1 series lead Saturday evening. Nathan Eovaldi (2-2, 5.20) starts against Yankees right-hander Jhony Brito (2-2, 6.11). Game time is 6:05 p.m.
