Top Texas Rangers International Prospect Turning Heads

In this story:
While the Texas Rangers are obviously in a win-now mode – nothing says that more than a World Series title – looking towards the future is vital to long-term success.
The club has rebuilt its farm system in recent years, with some of that talent already contributing at the MLB level (Josh Jung, Evan Carter) and more to come. The Rangers in the next season or two could see the likes of Wyatt Langford, Justin Foscue, Brock Porter and Jack Leiter in Arlington.
Another prospect to watch is Sebastian Walcott. MLB.com recently listed the top international prospects for all 30 teams, and the 17-year-old shortstop made the list for Texas. From MLB.com:
Some evaluators believe that Walcott could become the best player ever from the Bahamas, and his lofty ceiling earned him a $3.2 million bonus in 2023. He projects to have well above-average power and arm strength and reached Single-A at age 17 during a pro debut in which he hit .246/.335/.471 with seven homers and 12 steals in 48 games between three stops.
The Rangers obviously have a logjam in the middle infield with Corey Seager and Marcus Semien, meaning there is little to no chance someone like Walcott or Foscue will crack the lineup in the neat future.
But they do provide the Rangers with valuable trade pieces or could be candidates to change positions as they continue to develop. MLB.com ranks Walcott as the No. 3 prospect in the Texas system and No. 62 overall.
Walcott was the No. 8 international prospect when the Rangers signed him a year ago. He was one of 17 international players the organization signed. When he was just 16 years old, Walcott was drawing comparisons to Miami Marlins’ Jazz Chisholm, who is also from the Bahamas.
