Texas Rangers top 30 prospect Luisangel Acuña is off to a hot start in his first full season with the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders.

Acuña entered this season as the Rangers’ No. 3 overall prospect, behind only outfielder Evan Carter and pitcher Owen White, who are both playing at Frisco. Acuña is also one of the top 100 prospects in baseball.

Acuña is coming off a great week for the RoughRiders. Last week against Arkansas, he hit .360 with three doubles, a grand slam and two stolen bases.

That is carryover from his start to the season. In his first 15 games he is batting .323 with an .828 OPS. He has four doubles, a triple, a home run, 11 RBI and five stolen bases. He’s walked five times and struck out 11.

His start is also a good indicator that his performance from 2022 puts him on an upward trajectory in the organization. Last season with High Class-A Hickory and Frisco he batted .277/.369/.426/.749 with 66 runs, 16 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs and 47 RBI.

He then earned an invitation to play for the Arizona Fall League’s Surprise Saguaros. In November, the Rangers elevated him to their 40-man roster to protect him from the Rule V Draft.

Acuña has been with the Rangers since 2018, when he signed a $425,000 signing bonus to join the organization out of his native Venezuela. He is the younger brother of Atlanta outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr.

In his first full season of pro baseball in 2021, he was a significant contributor for the Low Class-A Down East Wood Ducks, rankings third in the entire league in runs (77), hits (110) and steals (44).
