Ex-Red Sox Hurler Looking To Pitch Around All-Star Break; Could Reunion Make Sense?

Boston needs another arm for the rotation to add more depth

The Boston Red Sox could use some more depth in the starting rotation.

The rotation still is Boston's biggest weakness and is in a tough spot right now due to the recent injury to Lucas Giolito. There still are some interesting options out there in free agency. The top options clearly are Jordan Montgomery and Blake Snell but there are other mid-tier options out there.

A deal for someone like Mike Clevinger or Michael Lorenzen could make a lot of sense too. There are plenty of options out there and the Red Sox should be considering everyone.

One former member of the Red Sox in veteran starter Rich Hill also is looking for his next opportunity and is eyeing a return around the All-Star break, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

"In more of a summer baseball story, Rich Hill, who turns 44 next week, is hoping to pitch after the All-Star break," Heyman said. "If he pitches for one more team he’ll tie Edwin Jackson at 14 teams."

Hill is a 19-year veteran and certainly has been a journeyman throughout his career. He has bounced around the league throughout his career -- including three different stints with Boston -- and could make sense as a depth option.

Boston may not look to make a major splash by landing someone like Montgomery or Snell. Hill would be cheaper and is a more familiar option who at least could provide another arm for the Red Sox's rotation when he's ready to come back.
