The Cincinnati Reds made a depth move Monday.

Cincinnati reportedly claimed former Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox hurler Franklin German off of waivers, according to Beyond the Monster's Chris Henrique.

German originally was drafted by the New York Yankees in the fourth round of the 2018 MLB June Amateur Draft. The fireballer spent the first two years of his professional career with the Yankees' organization before being traded to the Red Sox in a deal surrounded around reliever Adam Ottavino.

The 25-year-old fully converted to the bullpen after being acquired by Boston and rose up the through the organization. He began his career in the Boston organization as a member of the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs in 2021. He was promoted to the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox in 2022 and his MLB debut the same year. German made just five appearances with the Red Sox last season and compiled an 18.00 ERA in four innings.

German was acquired by the White Sox this past offseason and began the season with the Triple-A Charlotte Knights but struggled out the gate while compiling a 7.15 ERA in in nine games.

The 25-year-old will join the Reds' 40-man roster immediately after being claimed off waivers. Although he hasn't been able to get his footing at the big league level, he is an interesting prospect for the Reds to take a flyer on. German compiled a 2.58 ERA with Worcester in 2022 in 32 appearances and features a fastball approaching 100 miles per hour.

German likely won't play a large role with the Reds this season, but he does have some upside. At the very least he will be a solid minor leaguer but maybe he will make his way back to the big leagues and take a step forward.
