In this story:

The Boston Red Sox certainly have been bitten by the injury bug this season.

Boston entered the 2023 campaign already dealing with injuries with Trevor Story and newly-acquired infielder Adalberto Mondesi set to miss time to begin the season. The Red Sox were thin in the middle infield to begin the season and have been dealt even more injuries.

Yu Chang suffered a a fracture in his hand and now the club is without the services of Christian Arroyo after he suffered a hamstring injury. The Red Sox officially placed Arroyo on the 10-day injured list Sunday afternoon and in response, called back up slugger Bobby Dalbec to the big league roster.

The young slugger made a short appearance with the Red Sox earlier this season after outfielder Adam Duvall went down with a wrist fracture, but has spent the majority of the season to this point with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox after failing to make the big league club out of spring training. He impressed during the spring, but wasn't able to crack the final roster.

Dalbec at one point was one of the club's top prospects, but inconsistent play since making his big league debut in 2020 certainly has lowered his stock. He has considerable power, but slashed just .215/.283/.369 in 117 games to go along with 12 home runs and 39 RBIs in 2022.

The 28-year-old likely will fill in as the club's bench utility man until Arroyo is able to return and likely will see time not only at first base, but shortstop and second base too. Hopefully he is able to take advantage of the opportunity and get back on track. Whether he finishes the season in the minors, with the big league club, or traded elsewhere, hopefully he is able to shine.
