Red Sox Speedster Officially Elects Free Agency After Disappointing Stint In Boston
One former member of the Boston Red Sox will be looking for a new home in free agency.
With the World Series behind us, free agency is just about to fully kick off. It's expected to be a very interesting offseason with plenty of big-name talent moving elsewhere through free agency or through trade. With free agency about to begin, things are already starting to happen across Major League Baseball with players electing free agency or signing extensions.
One player who officially has elected free agency is Red Sox speedster Adalberto Mondesí, according to the Major League Baseball Transaction Log.
Boston acquired Mondesí from the Kansas City Royals in a trade before the 2023 campaign in a deal for relief pitcher Josh Taylor. It was hoped that Mondesí would help the Red Sox with their middle infield issue but he was never able to get on the field.
He has dealt with a plethora of injuries over the last few years and has appeared in just 109 games since the beginning of the 2020 season. When he was healthy, he looked like a rising star for the Royals. He debuted with the club as a 19-year-old in the 2015 World Series with Kansas City and was a member of the championship club.
He spent seven seasons in Kansas City and was exceptional defensively and showed flashes offensively. Mondesí led the league in triples with 10 in 2019 and stolen bases with 24 in 2020. If he was healthy, he could've helped Boston out either at shortstop but things didn't pan out.
Hopefully, he can get fully healthy and get another opportunity with a club this offseason to get his career back on track.
