Dodgers Reportedly In 'Hot Pursuit' Of Former Red Sox Pitcher Ahead Of Trade Deadline

In this story:
The Los Angeles Dodgers very well may have yet another former member of the Boston Red Sox on its roster by the end of the day Tuesday.
The 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline is set to pass Tuesday night and one player who has found his name in trade rumors seemingly all season is former Red Sox and current Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Eduardo Rodríguez. Los Angeles -- who already have been extremely busy this trade season -- reportedly is pushing for a deal with the Tigers for Rodriguez ahead of the trade deadline, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.
"Dodgers are in hot pursuit of Eduardo Rodriguez now (and have been discussing Justin Verlander)," Heyman said. "(Los Angeles Times reporter Jack Harris) reported E-Rod and JV are their top targets."
Rodriguez more likely than not will find himself playing elsewhere by the time the trade deadline passes. The 30-year-old is having a career year and has compiled a 2.95 ERA in 15 starts this season. Rodriguez is one of the best available starting pitchers and Los Angeles is looking to make a big splash. The big lefty has an opt-out clause in his contract and can become a free agent this upcoming offseason and likely will as he's in for a big payday.
The longtime Red Sox hurler isn't the first former Boston player Los Angeles has had an interest in this season. The Dodgers already have signed former Red Sox pitchers Ryan Brasier and Ryan Sheriff this season and acquired Joe Kelly in a trade with the Chicago White Sox.
Los Angeles will have to make a move quickly if it wants Rodriguez and at this point, it wouldn't be too surprising to see one get done.
