Pair Of AL East Rivals Reportedly Looking To Land Ex-Red Sox Budding Star

One former member of the Red Sox could shortly re-join the division

The American League East could get a lot more difficult shortly.

The 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline is set to pass August 1 and one former member of the Boston Red Sox likely will be one of the biggest names to change teams. Former Red Sox and current Detroit Tigers pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez has been in trade rumors all season and it's growing increasingly more likely that he will be dealt and two American League East teams in the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays reportedly could have interest, according to The Athletic's Jim Bowden.

"The Orioles, Marlins, Rays, Astros, and Diamondbacks have shown interest in Detroit starters Eduardo Rodriguez and Michael Lorenzen," Bowden said. "The Tigers are looking for everyday position players in return and won’t be afraid to put Rodriguez and Lorenzen in the same deal if that delivers the prospects they want."

Rodriguez has shined for the Tigers this season in arguably his finest season yet as a big leaguer. In 15 starts so far this season the lefty has compiled a 2.95 ERA while posting a 91-to-21 strikeout-to-walk ratio and 6-5 record. Rodriguez can opt out of his current contract after the season and likely will as he's in line for a solid payday.

The 30-year-old likely will be a rental for whichever club lands him ahead of the trade deadline and Baltimore and Tampa Bay both could make sense. The Orioles and Rays both have World Series aspirations and adding a left-handed of Rodriguez's caliber could be just what either team needs to put them over the top. The deadline is set to pass August 1 so there isn't much time left to make a move.
