Spencer Steer Comes Up Short, Doesn't Win Silver Slugger Award
Cincinnati Reds rookie Spencer Steer was named a Silver Slugger finalist earlier this month, unfortunately Cubs star Cody Bellinger beat him out to win the award.
Steer had a breakout season for the Reds, playing 156 games at first base, third base and left field for the Reds last season. His versatility is a big reason he was named a utility finalist.
The 25-year-old finished first in multiple hitting categories for the Reds last season, tallying 158 hits, 37 doubles, 23 home runs, 86 RBI and 68 walks. He posted a .271 batting average and an .820 OPS.
Steer was one of four National League finalists. He was joined by Bellinger, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder and second baseman Mookie Betts and San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim. Bellinger and Betts are both finalists in the outfield as well.
Steer was the Reds only finalist for either a Silver Slugger or Gold Glove this season. They have a talented young roster and pushed for a Wild Card spot. There's no reason why Steer and other promising Reds players can't continue to develop and win the award in the future.
