In this story:

The Colorado Rockies were a team at the recent MLB trade deadline that were sellers as they sold certain players and decided not to sell other players. But one player they did decide to sell and ended up trading to the Chicago White Sox was Brenton Doyle.

And one of the pieces that the Rockies got in return for Doyle was pitcher Mason Adams from Chicago and so far, Adams is making a good impression on the Rockies staff. Adams lately pitched for the Rockies Triple-A affiliate the Albuquerque Isotopes and had a good outing.

Adams completed five innings for the Isotopes and gave up one run on three hits while striking out four batters. The Rockies have had a lot of question marks in their starting rotation, but maybe Adams could be a rotation piece in the near future.

The Colorado Rockies are one of those teams that are trying to find answers in their starting rotation and do not have a lot of pieces to build with currently. They have had veteran starter Kyle Freeland providing a ton of innings for the Rockies for so many seasons now.

But Freeland is getting up there in age and is going to end up retiring sooner rather than later. And youngster Chase Dollander is on the injured list currently and has not pitched in a little bit. And Adams is one of those guys that could take this opportunity and run with it.

He was recently acquired in the Doyle trade and just got to the organization more recently, so he is going to need some time in Triple-A to get acclimated. But once the Rockies inevitably call him up have that be before the season ends or next season, he is going to get his chance.

And once Adams gets his chance, he is going to get some time and some innings to show manager Warren Schaeffer what he is made of and if he is really the real deal. Adams immediately was made a top 20 prospect for the Rockies and so far, it is starting to show.

It is a small sample size for the youngster, but Adams is one of those guys that is going to be given every opportunity to show what he can do. Schaeffer is going to need guys to cover innings and Adams could end up being one of those guys.
