What’s sports without fans?

The San Francisco Giants are asking this same question—and have come up with a novel solution for when baseball returns to Oracle Park. With empty stands due to the pandemic, the Giants are offering season-ticket holders an alternative. Send in a photo, and it’ll be turned into a weather-proof cutout in what’s being called the “Giants Fan Cutout Program”

Non-season-ticket holders can purchase a cutout for $99.

The MLB has announced it will play a 60-game season between late July and late September. However, due to safety concerns related to the coronavirus and social distancing, fans will not be in the stands.

However, the cutouts allow fans to “be at Oracle Park even when you’re home watching the game," according to the Giants.

The UK’s Exeter City Football Club also made cardboard cut-outs of fans, which were received with great fanfare. 1,256 fans bought cutouts, which the team is not transporting to new sites as it competes.

Matt Taylor, Exeter City manager, said: "Although it was a surreal experience to play the match at St James Park without crowds, seeing all those faces in the stand was amazing for the lads."
