Dry, Socially Distanced Playoff Celebrations on Tap for MLB
There will be no "popping bottles" this year in Major League Baseball.
The MLB’s shortened season is dwindling down, and teams are getting excited about playoffs but celebrations this year may look a little bit different. In fact, MLB officials are finalizing plans for how teams should safely enjoy earning a playoff spot. According to the Tampa Bay Times and New York Post, under the proposed plans, teams will celebrate on the field instead of crowding together in the clubhouse.
No dog piles are allowed and unfortunately, the most notable change is that the MLB is asking players to not pop champagne bottles.
The new celebration protocol isn't the best news, especially since the MLB will have a higher number of playoff celebrations this year with the expanded postseason format. With the new structure for this season, the MLB will see 16 teams (eight from the American League and eight from the National League) play in October.
