The experiment is over.

The New York Yankees have traded former top prospect outfielder Estevan Florial to the Cleveland Guardians for right-handed pitcher Cody Morris.

Florial, 26, was once a promising prospect in the Yankees' farm system, but he was never given a proper chance in the big-leagues.

Florial only appeared in 48 games for the Yankees across four seasons, slashing .209/.313/.296 with one home run and 11 RBIs.

However, Florial has put up some big seasons in the minor leagues, so there is still potential there. Last season in Triple-A, the lefty hitter batted .284/.380/.565 with 28 home runs, 79 RBIs and 25 stolen bases.

With the emergence of Jasson Dominguez, as well as the acquisitions of Juan Soto, Trent Grisham and Alex Verdugo, Florial's path to the major leagues would have once again been blocked.

As a result, the Yankees felt it was best to deal Florial. In all likelihood, a change of scenery might just be what Florial needs to find success in the big-leagues and he will now have a new chance with Cleveland.

As for Morris, the righty the Yankees acquired from the Guardians for Florial, he has posted a 3.41 ERA in 13 career big-league games, in which he has started five of them.

Morris is 27-years-old, but he will likely contribute as depth in both the starting rotation and bullpen for the Yankees, who just traded three starters in Michael King, Johny Brito and Randy Vazquez.
