Eliot Marshall takes on Jules Bruchez at The Ultimate Fighter 8 season finale on Dec. 13, and believes experience and training camps will be the difference in the fight.
Marshall's time on The Ultimate Fighter began by losing a fight everyone thought he won, except the judges, against Karen Grigoryan, but the Colorado resident was kept in the house after Antwain Britt broke his hand and was forced to exit the show. Proving he belonged, Marshall advanced to the semi-finals, losing to Ryan Bader by decision.
Since the loss to Bader, Marshall has worked on his weaknesses and expects to put on an impressive performance in his official Ultimate Fighting Championship debut.
"My stand up is coming a long. I've been working hard on it, working hard since the show," Marshall told MMAWeekly.com. "I've been working on getting up a lot. I've been working on my wrestling and working on getting up. I just spent a nice four weeks with Rashad (Evans), so that was fun."
Marshall has split his training for this bout between his normal Colorado camp with Duane "Bang" Ludwig and traveling to New Mexico to work at Greg Jackson's gym.
"I've had a really great camp. I'm really well prepared. I'm in great shape. I'm physically strong, ready to scrap," said the Ring of Fire veteran.
"I'm training with Nate (Marquardt), Rashad and Duane, GSP (Georges St. Pierre) and Keith (Jardine). I don't think he's getting the same level of training that I get," added the light heavyweight fighter.
Asked about the matchup with Bruchez, Marshall stated, "The fight with Jules, it's a fight. Jules is going to come in and try to beat me up. So, if I let him beat me up, then my bad. If I go fight to win, then I win. If I fight not to lose, then who knows? I give him an open door. Not saying I will lose that way, but that's how I can lose.
"I'm not going to be more careful. When you're more careful, you sit there and watch yourself and lose," added the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt. "I have to go win. I have to go beat Jules. I'm going to fight hard and try to win one of those bonuses.
"If I lose to Jules, I'm pretty sure I'm not coming back. My wife will get mad at me and all kinds of crazy stuff, so I better go win that fight."
