Ashley Walker
Welcome to the apartment of Cal basketball All-American Ashley Walker. Currently leading the tenth-ranked Bears in points, rebounds, blocks and free throw percentage, the 6-foot-1 forward/center is a junior American Studies major and Cribs caught her in the midst of writing a 10-page paper. This is Berkeley, after all.

Walker shares her North Berkeley apartment with one roommate, who had recently baked the brownies seen on their stove. "I like to cook out of season," she said, "but we have training table now." We should all be so lucky.

"My parents definitely don't let me starve. Our freezer is always stuffed," says Walker. In fact, her mom makes the 90-minute drive from their hometown of Modesto every other weekend to stock the fridge and the cabinet. Her parents also drive to all her games, no matter the location. "They're definitely basketball people," she says.

Among Walker's favorite foods are soup (especially clam chowder), pasta and cereal. She also has a junk food cabinet, "but we put it up high so it's hard to reach," she says. Considering she's 6-1, that must be kind of tricky.

Ashley takes one more look at her fridge. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see yourself on a magnet?

Ashley and her roommate share a pretty sweet HD Sony flat-screen TV. She says they got it on heavy discount because her roommate bought it on uBid with a slight crack on the top. ''When we do team things, everyone's like, 'Let's go to Ashley's house, because she's got the nice TV,''' she explains.

Which one of these is not like the other? Although Ashley enjoys playing NCAA Football 2008 and Madden '06 on Sony Playstation, she's pretty into chick flicks. Her movie rotation is always changing since she likes to bring DVDs with her for on games. At the moment her favorite movie is Knocked Up.

Ashley's been a basketball star forever, as evidenced by this magazine cover from 1998. It seems to run in the family: her brother, Tiran, played at Azusa Pacific University and is now a player-coach in England. Ashley watches his games online whenever she has a chance.

A peek inside the bathroom. You might notice the huge stash of toothbrushes top center. "I have four different toothbrushes, and I'd say I brush my teeth about four or five times a day," Ashley says.

Here Ashley shows off her stuffed closet. By her count she owns nine pairs of jeans (plus the three that she keeps in her locker at the gym). "I have jeans issues," she explains.

Cal associate head coach Lindsay Gottlieb is quite the trickster. At a recent team dinner she dressed up, stole Walker's phone and made herself the wallpaper. "Coach is just silly," laughs Ashley, who was so amused she didn't bother to change it back.

Ashley's best friend is Cal sophomore point guard Natasha Vital, who came over toward the end of our visit. "Tasha comes over for food that my mom buys just for her, like pizza pockets and chocolate milk," Ashley says. Here Vital -- who also has her own hot sauce cabinet -- inspects the freezer for new additions.

Tasha and Ashley enjoy the warm sunshine on the apartment's communal deck. "It's great for barbecues, but we haven't done any yet," Ashley says.

Like any good episode of Cribs, this one ends with a vehicle. Vital lives on the other side of campus, but gets around easily on her scooter, which they call the "Red Devil." Lots of Cal athletes favor scooters, which are easier to park in Berkeley's crowded streets.
