Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Alicia Keys will run the 2015 New York City Marathon on Nov. 1.

Keys will participate as a charity runner representing Keep A Child Alive, which aims to provide HIV medications to African children and families who that may not always have access to treatment.

Alicia keys previously ran a marathon in Greece back in 2007 as part of her training to get in shape for her role in the movie "Smoking Aces." Keys never specified a time, but said it “It was kind of long. it took me a while. I wasn't rushing.”

“A messenger ran from Marathon to Athens to shout the news that they won the war,” Keys told David Letterman in 2007. “But my trainer didn't tell me the messenger died.”

Keys was present at the 2013 New York City Marathon as a spectator. She will be running 26.2 miles in the same streets that she sings about on the Grammy award-winning track "Empire State of Mind."

“A few months ago, I was working out and minding my own business, and my brother came over to me and said, “Why don't you run the New York City marathon with me this year?” My first instinct was to say, "HELL NO!" LOL.” Keys wrote on Refinery29. “But then I thought, This is my city, so why not?”
