Nuggets' Ty Lawson arrested for harassment, criminal mischief

Nuggets guard Ty Lawson was arrested and charged with physical harassment and criminal mischief by authorities in Colorado following an incident over the weekend.
TheDenverChannel.com reports that both charges are misdemeanors and were prompted by allegations of domestic violence.
Denver Nuggets' guard Tywon "Ty" Lawson was arrested in an alleged domestic violence incident in Arapahoe County on Saturday, according to court records. The 25-year-old Lawson was arrested by sheriff's deputies on investigation of domestic violence-related harassment that includes either striking, shoving or kicking as well as a property damage charge, court records state.
A judge issued a mandatory protection order in the case, prohibiting Lawson from contacting the alleged victim.
The Denver Postreports that Lawson is now free on a $1,000 bond and that his girlfriend was also arrested in the incident.
Nuggets GM Tim Connelly issued a brief statement in response to the charges.
"We are fully aware of an incident involving Ty Lawson over the weekend," Connelly's statement read. "Per team policy and out of respect for the legal process, we will have no further comment at this time."
Lawson, 25, averaged 16.7 points, 6.9 assists and 1.5 steals for the Nuggets last season. A 2009 first-round pick, Lawson has spent his entire four-year career in Denver, where he received a four-year, $48 million extension last fall.
