Josh Smith has been assured by coach and president of basketball operations Stan Van Gundy that he will likely remain in Detroit, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports. Van Gundy reportedly told Smith that rumors of trade discussions that would send the forward to the Sacramento Kings were inaccurate.

Wojnarowski reported that Detroit had made calls about trading Smith in June but did not receive any substantial offers.

Smith signed a four-year, $54 million contract with the Pistons last summer. Former GM Joe Dumars, who signed Smith to that contract, stepped down in April. Dumars had been Detroit's president of basketball operations since the 2000-01 season.

Last year Smith averaged 16.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists and 1.4 blocks per game on 41.9 percent shooting. Detroit went 29-53 and missed the playoffs.
