The Washington Wizards are close to hiring Roy Rogers as an assistant coach, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports. Rogers was an assistant with the Brooklyn Nets last season.
Rogers spent three seasons in the NBA from 1996-2000. He played for the Vancouver Grizzlies, who drafted him in the first round of the 1996 draft, the Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors and Denver Nuggets. The 6-foot-10 forward averaged 4.8 points and 3.5 rebounds per game for his career.
Rogers' coaching career includes stints in the NBA D-League with the Austin Toros, Tulsa 66ers and Huntsville Flight. Rogers has also coached in the NBA with the Celtics, Detroit Pistons and Nets.
