Spain’s Pau Gasol questions national team future after World Cup loss

Spain and Chicago Bulls forward Pau Gasol said that he doesn’t know how long he will continue with the Spanish national team after they were upset by France 65-52 in quarterfinals of the FIBA World Cup.

Gasol, 34, said the upset was “a painful defeat” and that the team had big hopes of winning the entire tournament. Gasol led Spain with 17 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.

"You never know when it is your last game or your last tournament," Gasol said, according to Reuters. “I would like to play until I am 50 but I doubt I will. It is an honor to play for my country but you never know…We have great young players coming through and I am sure that we will have a strong side for the future.

Friday’s FIBA World Cup semifinals features the United States against Lithuania and France against Serbia.
