Dallas Mavericks guard Monta Ellis will miss at least the next two preseason games after spraining his left knee in practice on Thursday, coach Rick Carlisle said on Friday.

Carlisle also said the injury is not serious.

Ellis, 28, averaged 19.0 points, 5.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds over 82 games last season. He is entering the 10th season of his career and his second with Dallas after signing a three-year contract with the team in July 2013.

The Mavericks, which went 49-33 and earned the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference last season before falling to the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the playoffs, host the Oklahoma City Thunder in their second preseason game on Friday.

Dallas opens the regular season Oct. 28 at San Antonio.
