D-League holds annual draft

NEW YORK (AP) The NBA Development League held its annual draft on Saturday night, with the Grand Rapids Drive selecting Tennessee State's Robert Covington with the first overall pick.

The Drive were making their first-ever D-League selection, and they grabbed the 6-foot-9 forward who has spent time with the Houston Rockets and was last year's D-League rookie of the year.

The Drive, who will be the Detroit Pistons' affiliate this season, also had the fifth overall pick and selected former Notre Dame standout Ben Hansbrough.

The D-League kicks off its 14th season on Nov. 14. The 18-team league includes 17 that have one-to-one affiliates with NBA teams.
