Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio will not return to Friday night's game against the Orlando Magic after suffering a sprained left ankle, the team announced.

With less than three minutes remaining in the second quarter, Rubio dribbled around a screen and drove into the lane, only to roll the ankle as he attempted to plant near the basket.

Rubio fell to the floor and grabbed his ankle, grimacing in pain, before he was helped off the court. The Timberwolves said Rubio would be re-evaluated Saturday.

Here is video of the injury:

Over four games this season, Rubio has averaged 10.8 points and 6.3 assists. The 24-year-old recently agreed to a four-year contract extension reportedly worth $55 million with the Timberwolves.

He is in his fourth season in the NBA after playing professionally in his native Spain. The Timberwolves selected Rubio with the No. 5 pick in the 2009 draft.

Minnesota is 2-2 this season.
