Lakers rookie Randle has successful foot surgery

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) Los Angeles Lakers rookie Julius Randle has undergone surgery to replace a screw in his right foot.

The surgery was performed Tuesday at Cedars-Sinai Orthopedic Center.

Randle is already out for the season after breaking his right leg during the Lakers' season opener. He decided to use his down time to have additional surgery on his foot, which he broke in high school.

That injury was a factor in his draft status when he left Kentucky, with some teams concerned that Randle eventually would need additional surgery on his foot. The Lakers eagerly chose him with the seventh overall pick when he slipped to them on draft night.

Randle is expected to recover fully from both injuries, the Lakers say.
