Blazers sign GM Neil Olshey to contract extension

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) The Portland Trail Blazers have signed general manager Neil Olshey to a multiyear contract association.

Team owner Paul Allen praised Olshey for rebuilding the team to a playoff contender. The Blazers advanced out of the first round of the playoffs last season before eventually falling to the NBA champion San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference semifinals.

Terms of the extension announced Thursday were not disclosed.

Olshey was named general manager in the summer of 2012. He came to Portland after nine seasons as vice president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Blazers were 27-8, sitting behind Golden State for the top spot in the West, heading into Thursday night's game against the Miami Heat at the Moda Center.
