Video: Rajon Rondo throws backward, overhead outlet to Monta Ellis in win

Rajon Rondo experiences the game of basketball in a way wholly unique to him. Where others see obstacles, Rondo finds opportunity. When his point guard contemporaries might look to score, Rondo insists on probing and waiting. He is a one-of-a-kind talent in ways good and bad, the combination of which leaves him as one of the most fascinating and contentious players in the league.

In his most spectacular moments, however, Rondo inspires more awe than debate. Not only does he see plays that exceptionally few can, but his boldness as a playmaker occasionally leads to gems like this one against the Orlando Magic:

Due credit to Monta Ellis for tracking the ball like a wide receiver, though his catch and finish was only possible because Rondo thought it wise to throw a full-court outlet pass over his head backward without glancing upcourt. In the hands of any less capable passer this could well be a turnover. Then again: In the hands of any less capable passer, this terrific feed would likely never have been thrown at all.
