Basketball court for 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro unveiled

The basketball court for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro has been unveiled at Carioca Arena 1 in Barra Olympic Park.

The new $195 million facility is in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood of Rio and was finally finished after breaking ground in 2009.

The court displayed on Tuesday will be used for basketball as well as wheelchair basketball and rugby during the Paralympics. The Olympic Hall holds an occupancy of 16,000 people.

The Basketball Arena built for the 2012 Summer Games in London held 12,000 people and was dismantled at the conclusion of the Paralympics.

The United States men’s national team will go for its third consecutive and 15th overall gold medal this summer. It will also be Coach Mike Krzyzewski’s final global championship as the U.S. head coach.
