Nets hire Sean Marks as general manager
The Brooklyn Nets have hired Sean Marks as their new general manager, the team announced Thursday.
Marks’s contract is reportedly for four years, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.
“After an exhaustive vetting process, we are delighted to have Sean as our general manager,” owner Mikhail Prokhorov said in a statement. “His experience on the court, in coaching and management gives him a 360 degree view of the job at hand.”

Marks replaces Billy King, who was reassigned from the general manager role last month when the Nets also fired head coach Lionel Hollins.
Marks, 40, ended his 12-year NBA playing career after the 2010–11 season, and joined the San Antonio Spurs in 2013, serving as an assistant coach and most recently as assistant general manager.
“His background helping to build one of the greatest teams in the NBA gives him an unparalleled frame of reference,” Prokhorov said. “And he impressed us all with his vision, his values, his personality and his enthusiasm for the club. The vote to select him from an incredible list of talent was unanimous.”
The Nets chose Marks over former NBA executive of the year Bryan Colangelo and Houston Rockets vice president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas, reports Wojnarowski. ESPN reported Denver Nuggets executive Arturas Karnisovas was also a finalist for the position.

Just Wednesday, Prokhorov denied knowing who Marks was when he was questioned about a report naming Marks as one of the final candidates for the general manager job.
The Nets are currently 14–40, the second-worst record in the Eastern Conference.
