J.R. Smith, Cavaliers reach four-year, $57 million deal

The Cleveland Cavaliers have reached a four-year contract agreement with J.R. Smith, the guard announced in an “Uninterrupted” video on Friday night.
ESPN’s Marc Stein first broke the story and reported that the deal was worth $57 million.
Smith is coming off a season in which he averaged 12.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists. He also helped contribute to the Cavaliers’ championship run as he scored 20 points in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

He became an unrestricted free agent after not picking up his $5.3 million player option for the 2016–17 season. The Boston Celtics were among other teams that were reportedly interested in Smith.

Smith turned 31 years old last month. He was the winner of the 2012–13 NBA Sixth Man Award.
