76ers’ Daryl Morey Takes Firm Stance on Asking Price in James Harden Trade Talks
James Harden remains on the 76ers despite reportedly requesting a trade from the team last month. Although the guard wants off the team, Philadelphia still has to find common ground to grant his wish.
Team president Daryl Morey joined “The Anthony Gargano Show” on 97.5 FM in Philadelphia on Tuesday and confirmed that Harden asked for a trade. Morey added that he will try to give Harden his wish, but just because that’s the case doesn’t mean the team will just give him away.
“If we don’t get either a very good player or something we can turn into a very good player, we are not going to do it,” Morey said, via Keith Pompey.
Ahead of the offseason, Harden picked up his player option for next year instead of entering free agency. He is set to make over $35 million next year before his deal expires.
Not only does Harden want to be traded, but his one reported preferred landing spot is the Clippers. However, Morey has made it clear he will do what’s best for the Sixers, not necessarily Harden.
On Monday, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that Morey and Harden’s relationship has been “fractured.” Morey and Harden spent eight years together in Houston and led the best Rockets teams of the past decade.
